Cortisol, which is the primary hormone involved in directing the function of the immune system, follows a 24-hour cycle. It peaks when the sun rises and lowers as the sun sets.Normal sleep occurs in cycles throughout the night. On this cycle, about three hours after dark, our bodies' cortisol levels are at their lowest and we start the rest, repair and recovery period.Repair Cycle - Our immune cells work through our bodies, eliminating bacteria, viruses, cancer cells, damaged cells and other harmful agents.Regeneration Cycle - During this cycle, our immune system is enhanced. The brain releases chemicals to achieve this. Sleeping an average of seven to eight hours a night helps to accomplish this. When we don't get enough sleep, our immune system has a tough time accomplishing its job. This opens up the opportunity for disease to occur. If you are laying in bed at night and your mind races with worries and concerns your cortisol levels become elevated. Your immune system becomes suppressed which can lead to sickness and disease.Sometimes we need to assist our bodies to obtain this peaceful sleep. Hannen Health's Sleep Cycle at night, followed by Adrenal Support in the morning can help!
